Facial Skin Resurfacing
Goal: To remove various facial skin irregularities, i.e. acne or measles scarring, post traumatic and iatrogenic scars, keratosis seborrhoica, superficial tattoos, spotty pigmentations and fine wrinkles. In this way the skin becomes softer, lighter and tightened, free of prominences, pores, scars and fine wrinkles around the eyes or mouth.
Surgical technique: Coblation® (controlled ablation) plasma surgery system: A novel electrosurgical technology that uses low-radiofrequency energy for facial skin resurfacing. Replaces successfully laser treatment which often has some unpredictable effects and long-lasting recovery.
Dermabrasion: Performed manually or using special device with high-speed rotating abrasive cylinders which remove superficial and medium depth layers of the damaged facial skin.
Chemical Peel: Application of various acids in different concentrations (phenol, glycolic acid, trichloracetic acid etc.) on the facal skin.
After the treatment vaseline gauzes soaked in antibiotic ointment are applied on the facial skin.
Duration and anesthesia: Dermabrasion and Coblation skin resurfacing are performed under local anesthesia (5% topical anesthetic cream), while the analgosedation is usually needed for the chemical peel.
Recovery: Step by step removal of all gauzes during one week, make-up in two weeks and sun protection during next few months.
Rare complications: Mild edema and redness. Hiperpigmentation is usually due to early exposure to UV radiation.
Pre-operatory evaluation: To proceed with this surgery the patient has to take a blood and heart test. In case there is a problem with the exams the surgery could not be done to the patient.
