Breast Reduction and Suspension

Goal: Volume reduction, breast lift, reshaping of large and flaccid breasts.

Surgical technique: There are many surgical techniques depending on the size and shape of breasts. Among them the most common are:

1. Periareolar technique, only with one circular scar around the areola. This technique is not suitable for very large breasts.(French technique)

2. Inverted T technique which assumes circular scar around the areola, one vertical and one horizontal scar (hidden in the submammary line).(us technique)

3. Vertical technique, with assumes circular scar around the areola and one vertical scar with wrinkles which disappear within two months.

Duration and anesthesia: 2.5 - 3.5 hours in general anesthesia

Recovery: Usual activities after 5 - 7 days. Stitches are removed after 4 and 9 days. Special bra is recommended for 1 month.

Rare complications: Temporary sensitivity loss for two weeks or up to 6 months, mild edema which will disappear in 1-2 weeks, possible small cysts in glandular tissue. Depending on the technique that is used it will guaranty that glandular tissue will stay fully functional for breastfeeding.

Pre-operatory evaluation: To proceed with this surgery the patient has to take a blood and heart test. Along with a mammogram. In case there is a problem with the exams the surgery could not be done to the patient.
