Blepharoplasty

Goal: Removal of the excess eyelid skin and prominent periorbital fat pads of the upper and lower eyelids. Both upper and lower eyelids can be treated together or separately .

Surgical technique: After precise preoperative markings, eliptical excision of the excess skin of the upper lid is performed, together with the muscle strip excision and removal of the fat pad if necessary. Subciliary incision of the lower lid is placed without cutting lashes and in case there is no skin excess, lower eyelid fat pads can be removed only through the transconjuctival approach, without external scars.

Duration and anesthesia: This procedure is performed under local anesthesia, with or without sedation, for upper and lower eyelids it usually takes 45 minutes.

Recovery: Ice bags are applied 24 hours after the surgery and cold cammomile gauzes next few days to reduce swelling. Stitches are removed in 3 days.

Rare complications: Eyelid swelling and bruises which could last 5-7 days. Inability to close eye fully or epiphora are temporary disorders.

Pre-operatory evaluation: To proceed with this surgery the patient has to take a blood and heart test. In case there is a problem with the exams the surgery could not be done to the patient.
