Prominant Ears

Goal: To correct the shape and reduce the angle between the ears and the head.

Surgical technique: Excision of the excessive retroauricular skin and remodelling of the auricular cartilage until normal contour and angle are achieved.

Duration and anesthesia: The procedure is performed under the local anesthesia and lasts about one hour for both sides. If necessary, it could be also performed under sedation in small children (after age of 6).

Recovery: Bandage around the head is removed after one week, stitches after 5-8 days.

Rare complications: Transitory swelling of the auricle due to hematoma.

Pre-operatory evaluation: To proceed with this surgery the patient has to take a blood and heart test. In case there is a problem with the exams the surgery could not be done to the patient.
